Artisans are emerging as a vital alternative for the future, emphasizing slow production and the use of natural materials to foster an authentic and sustainable society. Although the prices are higher due to the meticulous craftsmanship and uniqueness of each piece, their durability is almost limitless. As societal values shift, handicrafts offer a meaningful counterpoint to overproduction and rampant consumerism, which lack long-term value.

WHY??

Craftsmanship transcends mere production; it embodies a philosophy that values passion for materials over virtuality and waste. It stands for preserving memory and culture while creating products with a soul, in stark contrast to the impersonality of mass production. This philosophy has inspired the creation of innovative and functional designs.

The design is a versatile piece that serves food in two different positions, allowing the contents to be easily transferred onto a plate. This product, handmade from stoneware and porcelain and available in various finishes, was a finalist in the Comunitat Valenciana’s craftsmanship awards in 2022. This recognition underscores the blend of functionality and artistry that artisans bring to contemporary society.

PROTOTYPING: FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY

The journey of creating this innovative piece began with an in-depth study of various dish shapes and their uses. I analyzed how different profiles could integrate seamlessly with my design concept. Once I had a clear understanding, I proceeded to the prototyping phase by 3D printing a model to serve as a basis for the mold.

Using this 3D-printed piece, I constructed a mold for stoneware, also known as gres in English. Collaborating with MICUIT, a skilled artisan, I was able to refine the prototype, ensuring it met the highest standards of quality and functionality. The final prototype was glazed and finished, embodying the blend of traditional craftsmanship and design. This phase was crucial in transforming a conceptual design into a tangible, functional, and aesthetically pleasing product.

AWARD WINNING PIECE

The work behind this piece culminated in significant recognition. In 2022, it got to be a finalist in the Craftsmanship Awards of the Comunitat Valenciana in the 'Nous Talents' category, which celebrates the creativity and skill of young talents in the field of handicrafts. This accolade highlighted the exceptional blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design that the piece embodies.

Winning this award allowed the piece to be showcased at the Craftsmanship Awards Comunitat Valenciana 2022 exhibition during the València World Design Capital event. This exhibition featured the best of regional craftsmanship, highlighting the piece's innovative and artistic design to a broader audience.
