the Research & Methods Course offers itself as a platform oriented to the learning, understanding and application of specific research and experimental skills to develop and manage research processes and content. The course follows the learning by doing methodology applied at IAAC, whereby students test the research skills acquired through the course within the context of their individual thesis agenda.

1ST TERM

In my research, I'm reflecting on the importance of merging traditionally separated fields: craftsmanship and emerging technologies such as AI and digital fabrication. The goal is to empower artisans by making technology more accessible, enabling them to innovate without losing the essence of traditional skills. I emphasize the need to preserve cultural heritage while helping new artisans acquire both technical and artisanal knowledge. Throughout my thesis, I'm looking to explore how technology can democratize the design and production process, leading to a more sustainable, hybrid form of craftsmanship that effectively balances tradition with innovation.

In these first sessions, by setting up my research and analyzing the "state of the art" and existing successful models, I've been seeing that while advances in both AI and digital fabrication are significant, there is still much work required to make these tools usable by craftspeople independently, without excessive reliance on external designers or scientists. That should be an area to "attack"
